The Issue

PETITION TO RENAME SOUTH 27TH STREET IN CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY “CAROLYN TOKLEY  BOULEVARD” 

To the honorable mayor, esteemed members of the City Council, and to the public at large:

Whereas, the recent passing of Mrs. Carolyn “Mom Mick” Tokley (of 59 south 27th street) marks the dawning of a new era in which her nurturing presence in the community will be manifested by implementing the goal of this citizen petition, and

Whereas, Carolyn “Mom Mick” Tokley has

·       served generations of school children, offering security and daily encouragement as their crossing-guard at the intersection of 27th and Mickle streets

·       in addition to her numerous decendants, she mentored countless young adults in the broader community

·       been a faithful member and church-mother at St. John’s Baptist Church in East Camden where the attendance at her Going Home service drew 2,500 persons, and

Whereas, the current and long-awaited resurfacing of south 27th street represents an awesome legacy and beautification of the proposed name change,

We the undersigned citizens of Camden City passionately request and strongly urge our city officials responsible for such change, to rename south 27th street, “Carolyn Tokley Boulevard.”
