Petition to Remove Sylvester Warren III from the Ballot

The Issue

This Petition seeks to remove Sylvester Warren III from the ballot as a Candidate to the elected position of Lake City Mayor.

Florida Law requires those convicted of felonies under federal laws have Executive Clemency to be eligible to hold public office. Sylvester Warren III was convicted of drug trafficking United States v. Warren, Case No.: 3:07-cr-233-J-33MCR. As of the date of creating this petition, Warren III does not has not received executive clemency according to the Department of Justice. 

DOJ - Search for a Case by Party Name

In June 5, 2023 Sylvester Warren III, was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Board by the Lake City Council and resigned following the opinion of its counsel that he was ineligible to hold public office without clemency. 

On July 28, 2023, the City of Lake City requested an opinion from the Attorney General via its legal counsel to confirm in fact that convicted felons without clemency cannot hold public office.

On October 25, 2023, the Attorney General did decline to answer the question explaining it was a moot issue because of the resignation of the appointee. 

Without executive clemency, On February 23, Sylvester Warren III, did file and the City Clerk of Lake City as a deputized Supervisor of Election did accept his Statement of Candidacy for the office of Mayor of Lake City.

Sylvester Warren III should not be listed on a ballot and neither should the access to protected voter records of citizens be compromised and delivered a candidate whose ineligible status is known to the responsible for protecting the elections.

Citizens of Lake City, Florida requests the Governor, and the President of the United States declare a State of Emergency for the domestic terrorism currently holding hostage our democracy and justice at the hands of Sylvester Warren III.
