Background:

Ascension Day, a Christian holiday traditionally celebrated 40 days after Easter Sunday, commemorates the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven. For centuries, it has served as a time of reflection, prayer, and unity for Christian communities worldwide. However, to the disappointment of countless South African Christians, Ascension Day was removed from the list of public holidays in 1994.
