PETITION TO PROTECT LATE-NIGHT FOOD SERVICE IN UPTOWN CLT
The Issue
SAVE HALAL FOOD CART
To the City of Charlotte, CMPD, CDOT, and Local Decision Makers:
We, the undersigned residents, workers, customers, and supporters of Uptown Charlotte, strongly oppose any effort to permanently force early closure of Halal Food Cart, a business that has faithfully served our city and community for years.
A RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS. A VALUED COMMUNITY PARTNER.
For years, Halal Food Cart has been an important part of Charlotte’s late-night economy, serving food until 3:00 AM on weekdays and 4:00 AM on weekends.
During this time, the business has consistently worked with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), complying with all city requests, following curfews when asked, and doing everything possible to be a responsible business partner in Uptown Charlotte.
Now, we understand that the City is attempting to make these early closure restrictions permanent.
WHO WE SERVE EVERY NIGHT
Halal Food Cart proudly serves:
Late-night workers finishing long shifts
Taxi and rideshare drivers
Security guards protecting businesses and buildings
Police officers serving our community
Hospital workers and emergency staff
City employees working after hours
Residents and visitors who need safe, accessible food options late at night
Our growing online and local community
WHY THIS MATTERS
Halal Food Cart is one of the few reliable late-night food options available in Uptown Charlotte.
Restricting these operating hours will have serious consequences:
It threatens the livelihood of hardworking employees and families behind Halal Food Cart
It negatively impacts workers who depend on late-night food availability
It hurts Charlotte’s growing nightlife and late-night economy
It sends a message that the City is restricting small businesses instead of supporting them
Rather than working to protect businesses that have served the community responsibly for years, the City is choosing to impose unnecessary restrictions that hurt entrepreneurs, workers, and everyday citizens.
WE ASK THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE AND CMPD TO
1. Reconsider making these early closure restrictions permanent
2. Allow Halal Food Cart to continue operating under its previous late-night schedule
3. Work collaboratively with local businesses instead of creating policies that damage small business owners and the community they serve
Charlotte should support businesses that create jobs, serve the public, and contribute positively to our city.
We stand with Halal Food Cart.
We support small businesses.
We support Charlotte’s late-night community.
