In this day and age, social media usage is inevitable for the majority of artists. They use it as a means to build audience for their businesses, or to meet likeminded individuals who might connect to what they create. They trusted these websites with their time, provided them with traction and money, and helped making them become the giants that they are today.

Now, human artists are facing misjudgement for this trust.

Meta implemented a labeling system that won't differentiate Human Made Art from the AI generated posts. Hundreds of human creatives were affected by it, and they already raised their voice about the unfairness of this system.

Human artists are being forced to provide timelapses of their work method, to put their face, their home, their identity on camera for the sake of fighting back the accusations, while people who generate their content with the use of generative AI allegedly won't receive the same AI labeling.

Meta's labeling system, in its current form, is not a reliable source of information.

The majority of today's websites aren't prepared for AI's presence in a way that leaves space for the very people who social media was created for in the first place: humans. We can't let these websites bury our existence.

AI couldn't exist without Human Made art, but we can exist without AI generated content. 

Suggestions:

• To implement a manual label system, so users can label their own work as Human Made, AI Generated, Mixed (both AI assisted and human made) or No Label (Personal Account).
• To implement AI filtering tools, so people can control their own feed manually in their settings. 
• To create and maintain a manual, reliable reporting system, where users can get access to human led customer service as well. 
• To implement reliable tools against data scraping.
• To declare that the sites will not use the user's content labeled as Human Made  and No Label  in any type of image generation and AI training.

The contents of these labels:

The Human Made label:

While uploading your image to a website, you should have the option to label your content. In case the artwork/post is labeled as Human Made, your image should have additional protection implemented, such as filtering against data scraping. Human made content should be recommended more to users who interact with such posts. To further prevent targeted data scraping, creators should have the ability to hide this label from their post, but still have the benefits of the label. 

The AI Generated and Mixed labels:

Same process applies as with the Human Made label, where users have the option to manually mark their content as AI Generated  when uploading. Users should be able to filter out posts labeled as AI Generated and/or Mixed under their content preferences. 

The No Label posts:

Posts under No Label should also be granted protection against data scraping. This label is meant for personal contents, such as selfies, travel photos, etc.

The goal of this petition is to start a clear communication between creators and websites, and the chance to create an experience that will not make human artists feel let down by these platforms. The suggestions above do not intend to represent all artists' idea of a solution and are created solely to point out the shortcomings of the current system, and start a debate on some possibilities for change.

Not distinguishing between AI generated and human made content only contributes to the spreading of misinformation, building the groundwork for an online landscape where users are more susceptible for manipulation.
