My name is Dan Matthews, and I was recently honoured with the Volunteer of the Year Award 2025 for my work at the GCS Longmeadow Centre in Andover.
As you may be aware, the Longmeadow Centre is facing closure due to GCS withdrawing its funding commitments. This decision is deeply concerning, as the centre plays a vital role in supporting our local community—particularly those affected by mental health challenges.
The Longmeadow Centre provides essential services, including a community pantry that supports families in need, as well as courses that help individuals return to work, gain new skills, and manage their mental well-being. The impact of these services cannot be overstated.
We are currently running a petition to keep the centre open—potentially under a new name and management structure—as a dedicated community space. We believe that with the right support, we can preserve this invaluable resource.
I kindly ask for your support in our efforts. Your help could make a real difference to countless individuals and families who rely on the centre every day.
