Petition to Halt the Sale of Port Glasgow Trailer Park

Petition to Halt the Sale of Port Glasgow Trailer Park
The Issue
"Residents of a municipally owned seasonal trailer park in Elgin County are concerned after being caught off-guard by local politicians’ intention to sell the property.
Open annually from May to October, Port Glasgow Trailer Park – about 70 kilometers southwest of London – belongs to the Municipality of West Elgin, and recently was declared “surplus” by politicians, paving the way for the property’s sale." ~ Excerpt from the London Free Press
We, the undersigned residents of the The Municipality of West Elgin, Port Glasgow Trailer Park, and beyond, are deeply concerned about the recent announcement of the park's sale. This sudden decision has caused significant distress and uncertainty among our community members.
We urge you to immediately halt the sale of Port Glasgow Trailer Park and allow us sufficient time to explore alternative options. Specifically, we request the following:
- A Moratorium on the Sale: We propose a temporary moratorium on the sale to provide our community with adequate time to organize and develop a viable plan for the park's future.
- Opportunity to Form a Resident-Owned Cooperative: We believe that a resident-owned cooperative model offers a sustainable and equitable solution. This would allow us to collectively purchase the park and manage its operations.
- Support for Resident-Led Operations: We are committed to taking an active role in the park's management. We request support and guidance in transitioning to a resident-led model, including access to necessary resources and expertise.
By taking these steps, you can help ensure the long-term viability of our community and protect the homes of countless families. We implore you to listen to our concerns and work with us to find a solution that benefits all parties involved.
