As of now, we're over 425 signatures and counting! Momentum is continuing and your shares and support are what's making a difference. I've done some research and back in 2012/2013 Albemarle, Virginia's Board of Supervisors passed a resolution requiring advanced notice of herbicide treatment at least 30 days prior. They also negotiated sensitive areas to be avoided and private landowners could opt out of the spraying. VDOT used green and red discs to indicate to drivers where to start and stop spraying, so there's applicable precedent to what we're trying to accomplish here. I'd also like to share that I've personally filed a formal complaint with VDACS, who oversees pesticide regulation in the state. They are launching an investigation into the incident and confirmed to me that they are able to issue a stop on work if wrongdoing is found. However, in my conversation it was clear that they cannot provide a lasting, sustainable solution. For real, long-term change, we need to take this issue to local and state decision makers. Thank you all for the 425+ signatures, let's keep going! Please continue sharing and fighting to protect our native plants, the Shenandoah River, and local ecosystems.
