Our homes are our sanctuary, a place where we find peace and rest. Yet, I am finding that this peace is frequently disrupted by the loud and prolonged sounding of train horns, late night and early morning, echoing through our town (Harrington). 

The persistent noise invades many residents' moments of rest and recovery, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours. Harrington is a vibrant community: tranquility during specific hours of the day/night supports this tranquility, especially when most residents are seeking respite from their daily routines.

This is not an unreasonable request but a necessary measure to improve the quality of life for the people of our town.

By implementing a Quiet Zone through collaboration with the Federal Railroad Administration and local city officials, it's possible to find a balance between necessary railroad operations and the community's well-being.

Quiet Zones are sections of tracks where locomotive engineers are exempt from sounding their horns.

Specific safety regulations, such as additional crossing signals and barriers, are implemented to ensure safety without compromising the peace of the surroundings (which Harrington currently has in place).

The Federal Railroad Administration supports Quiet Zones and provides guidance on their establishment, thus making this a viable solution.

A healthier, quieter environment can lead to a more content and productive community overall. Communities like ours have already successfully implemented these zones, proving that this initiative is both realistic and achievable.
