The lack of direct flights from Houston to major cities in  India, such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad, disproportionately impacts the Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil-speaking communities residing in the Houston metroplex and surrounding areas. With over 500,000 Indians in Houston, comprising 50-60% from South India, individuals and families face extended travel times, increased expenses, and unnecessary layovers when journeying to their homeland or visiting loved ones.

At stake is the convenience, affordability, and cultural connection of the South Indian diaspora in Houston. Without direct flights, travelers are forced to endure long layovers in Middle Eastern hubs like Dubai or Doha, leading to fatigue, additional expenses, and precious time lost. Furthermore, the economic benefits that could stem from direct flights, such as increased tourism, business opportunities, and strengthened ties between Houston and South India, remain unrealized.

Now is the time to act and address this longstanding issue. As the South Indian community in Houston continues to grow, the demand for direct flights becomes increasingly urgent. Immediate action is crucial to alleviate the burdens faced by travelers, enhance cultural exchange, and stimulate economic growth. By establishing direct flights, Air India and United Airlines have the opportunity to meet the needs of the community and provide a vital link between Houston and South India.
