Petition to Designate Nigeria as a State Terrorism.

Petition to Designate Nigeria as a State Terrorism.
The Issue
To: The International Criminal Court (ICC), United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and other pertinent international organizations.
**Subject: Designation of Nigeria as a State Terrorism
*Date: [2/10/2024]
**Petitioners: Concerned Global Citizens and Advocates for Human Rights (IPOB)
**Introduction
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the ongoing human rights violations and acts of state terrorism perpetrated by the Nigerian government. This petition seeks to draw urgent attention to the murder of the nonviolent Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) protestor and the kidnapping and unlawful detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, and its members.
---
**Background**
1. **Murder of Nonviolent IPOB Protesters and kidnapped**:
- Numerous reports have documented the brutal crackdown on peaceful IPOB protestors by Nigerian security forces. These actions have resulted in the deaths of many innocent civilians and unlawful secret kidnapping of IPOB, who are scattered in various prisons across Nigeria, raising serious concerns about the Nigerian government's commitment to human rights and the rule of law.
2. **Kidnapping and Unlawful Detention of Nnamdi Kanu**:
- On July 11, 2021, Nnamdi Kanu was abducted in Kenya and forcibly extradited to Nigeria without due process. This act of extraordinary rendition violates international law and Kanu's fundamental human rights. Despite court orders for his release, Kanu remains unlawfully detained, and his health continues to deteriorate.
3. **State-Perpetrated Terrorism**:
- The act of terrorism is not merely sponsored by a state, but rather perpetrated by the state itself. This is evidenced by the massacring of tens of thousands of IPOB members, hundreds of thousands of whom are incarcerated in different prisons throughout Nigeria and are completely denied access to legal representation.
---
**Demands**
We call upon the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other pertinent international organizations to:
1. **Designate Nigeria as a State Terrorism**:
- Recognize the Nigerian government's actions against IPOB protestors and Nnamdi Kanu as acts of state-terrorism.
2. **Investigate Human Rights Violations**:
- Conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of nonviolent IPOB protestors and the unlawful detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
3. **Hold Perpetrators Accountable**:
- Ensure that those responsible for these human rights violations are held accountable under international law.
4. **Demand Immediate Release of Nnamdi Kanu**:
- Urge the Nigerian government to comply with court orders and release Nnamdi Kanu immediately.
5. **Protect Human Rights Defenders**:
- Implement measures to protect human rights defenders and activists in Nigeria from state-sponsored violence and intimidation.
---
**Conclusion**
The international community must not remain silent in the face of such egregious human rights violations. We urge the ICC and other relevant organizations to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure justice for the victims.
