Petition to Connect Power and Open Bridge Road to access St. Francis Catholic College.

The issue

As a parent of St. Francis Catholic College and a concerned member of the local community, I am writing on behalf of myself and many other families who are facing increasing challenges related to traffic congestion along Adelong Blvd and the surrounding streets.

Since the college opened three years ago, student enrolment has steadily increased. While this is a positive development, it has also led to growing traffic along Adelong Blvd, especially during pick-up and drop-off times. These traffic issues are not only affecting the timely collection of students but also placing undue pressure on local residents along Adelong Blvd and nearby streets.

The situation has worsened since the start of the 2025 school year. The excessive congestion, limited parking, and blocked access to key roads (including Alfred Rd, Adelong Blvd, Kingia St, and Yarrow St) are creating significant safety concerns. The narrow roads, combined with the volume of traffic, make it virtually impossible for emergency vehicles to access these areas in case of an emergency. This is particularly worrying, as there is only one way in and one way out of the affected area.

To maintain the safety of students, families, and staff that are accessing this area daily the college has now introduced staggered departure times to ease the congestion that has and continues to cause due to limited access. Students now are losing education as part of this, which is then extended to additional pressure for families that have to leave prior work commitments to collect their student/s at a new dismissal time.

We, the undersigned, urgently request that Bridge Road be opened to provide an alternative access route. This would greatly alleviate the pressure on local roads, improve the safety of both students and residents, and ensure more efficient traffic flow in the area.

We trust that you will consider this request with the seriousness it deserves, to protect the safety and well-being of all those who live in and around St. Francis Catholic College.
