Petition to Clean and Maintain Old Cutler Road

Petition to Clean and Maintain Old Cutler Road
The Issue
As a resident of Old Cutler Road, I am deeply concerned—and frankly disheartened—by the continued neglect from both the City of Coral Gables and the City of Miami in maintaining one of our most iconic and historically significant roads. Once a beautiful, tree-lined route admired by locals and visitors alike, Old Cutler Road is now overwhelmed by piles of fallen leaves and debris that have gone unaddressed for far too long.
This is more than a matter of appearance. The neglect poses serious safety, health, and environmental risks:
Public Health Hazard: Accumulated leaves create a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses in our community.
Pedestrian Safety: Sidewalks are often buried under slippery leaf piles, creating a hazard for children, seniors, joggers, and anyone simply trying to enjoy a walk.
Fire Risk: Dry leaf buildup near homes, trees, and vehicles could easily ignite, putting residents in danger.
Neglected Identity: Despite high property taxes, the area feels abandoned—bringing down property values and harming our collective well-being.
Residents have tried to manage the issue on their own, but the scale of the cleanup far exceeds what individuals can handle. We need municipal support—and we need it now.
We respectfully urge both the City of Coral Gables and the City of Miami to:
- Implement a regular city-run leaf removal and street maintenance schedule for Old Cutler Road, especially during high leaf-fall seasons.
- Deploy street-cleaning equipment and personnel to ensure proper removal and prevent further buildup.
- Sponsor community clean-up events with city-provided resources to encourage resident involvement while ensuring the cleanup is truly effective.
Old Cutler Road connects our communities and reflects the spirit of South Florida. It deserves the same attention, care, and respect as other neighborhoods across Coral Gables and Miami. Let’s restore safety, beauty, and dignity to our street—and protect the health and safety of our families.
Please sign this petition and stand with your neighbors in demanding responsible action. Together, we can send a strong message that Old Cutler Road matters—and so do the people who live here.
