Pushing for Change: Committee Continues to Advocate for Virtual Court Hearings

We are pleased to share that our efforts as a committee remain strong with our pursuit to return all court attendances to be presumptively virtual unless the parties and their counsel agree otherwise or if the court for good reason orders that a particular attendance shall be in person or hybrid. 

We have important discussions coming up amongst the committee in the coming months regarding a virtual town hall that we will be holding this summer for legal professionals and members of the public to attend. During this event, we plan to share insights from the study that Professor Nicholas Bala and his colleagues are in the process of conducting on the experiences of family lawyers in regard to the pandemic, virtual court etc. We look forward to sharing more updates soon. 

In addition to my advocacy with the Family Law Ad Hoc Steering Committee, I have made the decision to take this passion a step further by running as a candidate in the upcoming LSO Bencher Election in April.  If elected, I plan to use my position and influence as a bencher to further advocate for change in respect to improving access to justice and presumptively remote court hearings.
