PETITION TO ALLOW STORAGE SHEDS IN BACKYARDS

PETITION TO ALLOW STORAGE SHEDS IN BACKYARDS
The Issue
To: The Board of Directors, Bouquet Canyon Hills Homeowners Association
From: Concerned Homeowners of Bouquet Canyon Hills
Letter Dated: March 12, 2025
Subject: Opposition to the Recent Enforcement Action Regarding Backyard Sheds
We, the undersigned homeowners of the Bouquet Canyon Hills community, respectfully request that the Board of Directors reconsider and halt the enforcement action requiring the removal of backyard storage sheds.
Reasons for Our Petition:
1. **Long-standing Acceptance:** Many homeowners, including those recently notified, have had their sheds for several years without any previous objections from the HOA.
2. **Community-Wide Presence:** A large percentage of homes in our neighborhood currently have sheds, demonstrating that they are a common and widely accepted feature in our community.
3. **Aesthetic and Functional Value:** The sheds in question are well-maintained, professionally installed, and add practical storage solutions without negatively impacting property values or the neighborhood’s appearance. (According to a survey conducted by Kiplinger, outdoor structures like storage sheds can increase a property's value up to 5%.)
4. **Lack of Complaints:** To our knowledge, there have been no specific complaints regarding these sheds, suggesting that they do not pose an issue for our community.
5. **Unfair and Sudden Enforcement:** The enforcement action appears to be selective and inconsistent, as many sheds remain in place without issue. Additionally, homeowners were not given prior notice or an opportunity to seek an exemption.
Our Request:
We respectfully urge the Board to:
- Suspend the enforcement action requiring the removal of sheds.
- Conduct a community discussion or vote on the matter.
- Consider amending the HOA rules to allow properly maintained and well-constructed sheds in backyards.
We believe this issue should be addressed fairly and with input from the community. We appreciate your consideration and look forward to working together toward a reasonable resolution.
