Greetings!

It was an informative WG Pool Board meeting last night but there are still many unanswered questions. The good news is the community showed up in force with over 100 people in attendance, spilling into the halls of the Senior Center. Appreciation to the Board and Civic Association for the history and insight into our current situation.

Updates:

  • Ownership is confirmed: Peter Cromwell owns the land and the buildings, he filed the latest city development plans under Woodley Waves LLC, associated with Georgetown Hill Early School, internet records show the school listed as a 501C3 and there are roughly 10 such schools in operation.
  • Financing and permit approvals appear to be in place for construction to resume on the school in late summer 2025 but does NOT include the pool or pool house. For these, the owner is asking the community to invest in repairs and renovations.
  • The Board assessed the necessary repairs to the pool house, pool, decks, concrete, and critical machinery to be a minimum $3Million.
  • The Board operates as a 501C3 since 2021 and was on a previous year-to-year lease for the land. They have not yet explored a long term land lease with the owner, or restructuring the 501C designation to allow for different financial approaches.
  • The Board is changing over and looking to fill at least four seats in the coming weeks. They are asking for people with legal, finance, association/board, fundraising backgrounds to support (please email colby@liveatavenel.com if interested).

One thing is clear, the community must work with Peter Cromwell to achieve our goal of renovating and reopening the pool and this will be an all hands on deck evolution to ensure success.

Thank you all for your support so far, to learn more please join the WG email listservs:
