Petition to Add 15 and 30-Minute Parking Options in Thunder Bay Business Districts

The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Thunder Bay Council (Municipal Parking Services) to add 15 and 30-minute parking options in the downtown cores. The minimum charge of $2 for an hour and the requirement to pay for a full hour disproportionately impacts small businesses and deters customers, driving more people where shorter, or free, parking periods are more accessible.

Introducing shorter parking options will:

  • Encourage quick visits to locally owned and operated small businesses.
  • Improve convenience for downtown shoppers and visitors.
  • Support local businesses in competing with big box stores and shopping centers.

We urge the City Council to consider this adjustment to foster a thriving downtown community and economy.
