Petition: The ISU Should Hire Jordan Cowan to Innovate On-Ice Filming at Major Events
The Issue
Since 2017, Jordan Cowan, former Team USA ice dancer, has filmed skaters and shared their “On Ice Perspectives” across the web and social media. Beginning with filming friends like Madison Hubbell, Adam Rippon, and Mirai Nagasu, all Olympic medalists, he has now worked with thousands of skaters around the world, and his work has amassed over 2.5 million followers. In the process, Jordan has developed a highly specialized camera system and workflow, and has filmed live skating events for NBC, CBC, ESPN, and more, as well as for several feature films, documentaries and commercials.
It is understandable that having an on ice camera during live skating events gives reason for concern — and if operated without the level of expertise Jordan has accrued, it is indeed not recommended. It is also important to note that at no point would an on ice camera ever be present during the judged portions of an event. However we, the skaters signed, endorse Jordan to be used for bows & pre-warmup skate ons, award ceremonies, and of course galas at all events, and request that he be signed by the ISU for these events. We have all worked with him, and can personally attest that we trust him, and do not feel unsafe while he is on the ice.
In addition, we love our sport, and we are eager for innovation — something that Jordan and his skills easily provide. Every other sport now has camera operators come into the field during stoppages in play, and ice skating viewers deserve the same.

Why Jordan Cowan?
• Unmatched Expertise: As a former internationally competitive ice dancer and professional camera operator, Jordan understands the sport inside and out. He has consistently delivered high-quality, dynamic footage that truly captures the spirit and artistry of figure skating, with an unbroken track record and commitment to all athletes’ wellness and safety.
• Wide Reach & Proven Impact: With over 2.5 million organic social media followers and more than 100 million views per year on his videos, Jordan’s work has resonated with skaters and fans alike, giving him valuable insight on how to elevate the sport’s presentation.
• Focused Coverage: Jordan’s filming is exclusively dedicated to non-judged moments—introductions, bows, award ceremonies, and exhibition galas. This ensures that the competitive sections remain undisturbed while the celebratory parts of the event receive a cinematic, engaging treatment.
Why This Benefits the ISU:
Currently, each ISU event's coverage is managed by host broadcasters hired by local organizing committees, following guidelines set by the ISU. While these guidelines are effective, they do not yet cover specialized on-ice filming. By commissioning Jordan and incorporating his innovative approach, the ISU can enhance its broadcast quality, engage a wider audience, and set a new standard for presenting the beauty of figure skating.
Our Request:
We kindly ask the ISU to meet with Jordan Cowan for a detailed discussion about how his approach can be integrated into event coverage. With his extensive experience—from NBC’s coverage at U.S. Nationals and the 2021 World Championships Gala to multiple live televised skating shows—Jordan is uniquely qualified to offer a solution that benefits both the sport and its fans.
Sign this petition to support a new era of innovative, high-quality figure skating broadcasts and help ensure that our sport receives the presentation it truly deserves.
