We, the undersigned parents, students, staff members, educators, and community members of Idaho Falls School District 91, respectfully call upon the Board of Trustees to conduct a formal Vote of No Confidence in Superintendent Karla LaOrange.

Over the past several years, confidence in district leadership has steadily eroded. Many teachers, support staff, students, and families have expressed concerns regarding transparency, communication, employee support, and student safety. The result has been declining morale, increasing frustration among families, and the departure of valued educators, staff members, and students from our district.

Among the concerns frequently raised by members of our community are:

•Lack of transparency

•Failure to respond in a timely manner to both patron and staff concerns, or lack of response at all.

•"leadership" that instills fear from administrators who are unwilling to speak up for their staff and students for fear of retaliation and job loss.

• Refusal to create  a cohesive environment for negotiations for teacher contracts. Instead costly lawyer fees upwards of $35,000 and growing. 

• A growing perception among teachers and staff that they are unsupported by district leadership and that their concerns are not being adequately addressed.

• Continued loss of experienced educators, staff, and families who have chosen to leave District 91, citing dissatisfaction with district leadership and decision-making.

• Multiple incidents that have left parents questioning whether student safety is being treated with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.

• Concerns regarding communication during a reported violent threat situation at Skyline High School, particularly the lack of notification to nearby schools and families, including those at Westside Elementary and Fox Hollow Elementary, despite their close proximity to Skyline.

• Decisions regarding school operations and safety, including concerns about leaving school buildings open during voting activities rather than utilizing an online learning day to reduce potential risks and disruptions.

• Concerns surrounding facility management and district response to ongoing HVAC issues at Skyline High School and the impact these conditions have had on students and staff.

The purpose of this petition is  to hold district leadership accountable and restore trust between the administration, educators, families, students, and the community. We believe District 91 deserves leadership that prioritizes transparency, collaboration, communication, employee retention, and student safety.

Therefore, we respectfully request that the Idaho Falls School District 91 Board of Trustees place a Vote of No Confidence in Superintendent Karla LaOrange on a future board meeting agenda and publicly address the concerns outlined by the community.

Our students, teachers, staff, and families deserve leadership that earns and maintains the confidence of those it serves.
