The Issue

Who we are?
-We are nursing students, students, educators, and allies who believe in fairness, inclusivity, and equity within our professional community.

What’s happening
Laiba Masood was elected as the Workshop Coordinator for the 2026 Canadian Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA) National Conference in Saskatoon. Through her visionary leadership, she has been building a conference program rooted in equity, innovation, and student-centered advocacy.

Recently, Laiba was removed without fair process from her position. This decision is felt unjust, disheartening, not only to her, but to the nursing students she represents.

Why this matters
Laiba has dedicated herself to creating workshops that ensure diverse voices are heard and respected, including:

  • Indigenous Health & Perspectives: exploring culturally safe care, accessibility challenges in rural and Northern communities, and
  • Indigenous perspectives on MAiD.
  • Equity-Based Health: addressing the gender pain gap, female health, and period equity.
  • Social Justice & Advocacy: connecting healthcare to MMIWG2S+, sex trafficking, and the impacts of toxic masculinity.
  • Global Health & Crisis Response: examining healthcare in conflict zones and featuring international humanitarian organizations like Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
  • Her leadership ensures that the 2026 CNSA Conference will not only educate, but inspire nursing students across Canada to become leaders in their communities. To discredit her contributions is to discredit the voices of the very students she serves.

Our demand
-We urge the CNSA Board of Directors to reinstate Laiba Masood as Workshop Coordinator for the 2026 National Conference.

Our pledge
-Unless Laiba is reinstated, many of us will not attend the conference. Without her leadership, the event risks losing its integrity, inclusivity, and student-driven purpose.
