PETITION OF NO CONFIDENCE
SUPERINTENDENT GARY TUCKER
MARSH VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT 21
WE, the undersigned, wish to register our vote of NO CONFIDENCE in the administration of the Marsh Valley School District. Specifically, that Superintendent Gary Tucker has not demonstrated the leadership or fiscal responsibility needed to gain the trust and support of the patrons of the Marsh Valley School District.
We feel that it is inappropriate for the Superintendent to maintain a permanent residence outside the boundaries of the District; that the District provides not only a generous salary in excess of the experience he brought to the job, but also provides transportation for him to commute to his out of District home. We feel that hiring an Assistant Superintendent supports the lack of trust the patrons have in the Superintendent’s ability to deliver the necessary leadership that the District is crying out for.
We feel that because of this lack of leadership, morale among staff and students is dangerously low. This is reflected in the loss of student body population. This loss of student population will negatively impact the monies received from the State. We, the patrons, do not see an effort being made to correct the conditions responsible for this decline in school spirit.
We feel that the patrons were misled when the recent override levy was proposed to make up a budget shortfall. According to the Superintendent, “We are operating at a deficit” when, in fact, the District ended FY23 with almost $1 million dollars more in the general fund than the year previous. There appears to be a lack of transparency in the District’s finances, e.g., what happened to the $3.5 million in Covid money?
Superintendent Tucker has failed to engage the patrons in the development of a Strategic Plan for the District yet continues promoting personal long range plans to consolidate the Elementary Schools into a single campus.
We feel that Superintendent Tucker is not the right fit for Marsh Valley School District and that his talents and administrative skills may be better suited to a different District. We the signees of this petition therefore encourage the Marsh Valley School Board to take action accordingly.
By signing the affixed No Confidence Petition, I affirm that I am patron of the Marsh Valley School District.
