Hello Petition Signers!

Thank you so much for signing the petition to oppose the Harbor District from building a parking lot in El Granada on the North end of the Burnham Strip!

Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10am, the Harbor District board members will vote on paying the winning bid contractor to build the parking lot.  We need to show up and tell them to vote against this. There will be more meetings with approval process, but we need to show up and continue to put pressure on.  Here is are links to the zoom link, and agenda

If you can show up in person, the address is: 504 Avenue Alhambra, Suite 200, El Granada, CA 94018

Say "NO Harbor District parking lot in El Granada". There will be several board meetings. We will need to continue show up at meetings making comments to keep constant pressure on the Harbor District NOT to build a parking lot on the Burnham strip.

  1. The Harbor District continues to push their agenda despite opposition from community members.
  2. Please remember there is a history of people in El Granada having to continue to fight development on the strip.  Back in 1986, the citizens of San Mateo County voted YES on Measure A to protect coastal views: "The Coastal Protection Initiative". In addition, El Granada citizens fought hard locally to protect the strip and it became designated Gateway zoning, but the County and the HD has recently purchased land on it.

Thank you El Granada! We have over 800 signatures showing that people in El Granada are against this parking lot.  Please keep sharing the petition to collect more signatures especially from El Granada citizens.

Here is a history of what has transpired thus far:

  1. Several Community members went to early Harbor District (HD) meetings to tell them we do not want a HD parking lot in EG on the Burnham strip.
  2. About 25 or so community members all expressed their opposition to the parking lot proposal at the Harbor District presentation at the MCC meeting a few months later.  HD said it was just an idea at that point to present to the public. We clearly said NO at that meeting.
  3. The originators of this petition presented our petition to Supervisor Mueller when we had collected over 500 signatures to ask him to stand up for El Granada.
  4. The parking lot discussion was brought to the MCC again by a few MCC members and the community seeking to get the MCC to write a letter of opposition to the HD.
  5. Instead, the MCC wrote a letter with questions to the HD, and has now asked for a stakeholder meeting to come up with alternatives.
  6. In the most recent Harbor District meetings, the board has been justifying their reasons for "needing" a parking lot on the Burnham Strip and they continue to push their agenda despite community opposition.

You can view the calendar of meetings here. Agendas are only released 72 hours before the meeting.
