The Issue

The SEBCO swimming pool has been a cornerstone of our community, offering invaluable opportunities for community development in Jefferson Township and beyond. As a representative from the SEBCO swim team, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable benefits our pool provides—not just a place to cool off during the hot summer days, but a vibrant hub where youth and families build essential swimming skills, kindle positive leadership abilities, and foster strong family and community bonds. For many local teens, our pool offers one of the few summer employment opportunities in the area. SEBCO has historically been one of the only local public community pools available for all of us to share together.

The SEBCO swim team has been a foundational part of our community's summer activities, connecting us to neighboring communities through our competitive swim league. This pool, its programs, and its participants are vital not only to us but to the Alle-Kiski Valley Swim League itself. The league thrives on the participation of our team; without the SEBCO swim team, the league may falter, affecting the morale and continuity of competitive swimming in the region.

Across the years, SEBCO swimming pool has stood as a beacon of community spirit and development, but now it is in dire need of renovation. The financial cost to upgrade and maintain the pool is significant. However, the cost of losing this community asset is far greater. The closing of the SEBCO swimming pool would lead to the loss of positive family engagement for the community, dissolution of our swim team, loss of summer jobs for our youth, and diminish the essential swimming capabilities of our residents, many of whom consider swimming a life-saving skill. With fewer teams in our league, the entire structure of our summer swim meets could be jeopardized, effecting the development of the sport across the region.

We urge Jefferson Township to allocate the necessary funding to renovate and reopen the SEBCO swimming pool. Your support can ensure that this crucial community resource continues to serve as a safe haven for families, swimmers, a venue for developing essential life skills, and a place of employment and collaboration for our township’s youth. Preserving and enhancing the SEBCO swimming pool is an investment in the vitality of our community.

Join us in ensuring that the SEBCO swimming pool remains a vital thread in the fabric of our community. By signing this petition, you lend your voice to secure a summer sanctuary for family fun, competitive spirit, and community development in Jefferson Township. Please sign and support our effort to keep the SEBCO swimming pool operational for future generations.
