The Issue

I bought my 2022 Ioniq 5 specifically for road tripping, and it's a fantastic vehicle for that purpose! However, there's one key issue holding back its potential: the software constraints on battery preconditioning. This limitation is not only frustrating, but it also significantly hampers the vehicle’s capability to deliver the full road-tripping experience it promises.

Currently, for all 2022-2024 Ioniq 5 and other E-GMP vehicles on Gen-5W software, Hyundai only allows battery preconditioning down to 20%. By petitioning Hyundai to add a manual battery preconditioning button, and to allow preconditioning down to 10%, we can unleash these cars’ full potential for longer road trips. This goes for:

  • 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5
  • 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6
  • 2022-2024 Kia EV6
  • 2023 - Early 2025 Genesis GV60

Hyundai Motor Group moved the industry forward when they released the innovative 800V E-GMP platform, and this adjustment could further solidify their reputation as a leader in the EV space by providing a better experience for customers who rely on their vehicles for long journeys.

Consider the many road-trip enthusiasts who long for the ability to maximize their vehicle's range and efficiency. As dozens of new charging locations come online each week across the country, it is nearly impossible for the navigation software to keep up. A software update that adds a simple button to start battery preconditioning (and allow it to continue down to 10%) isn't just a minor convenience; it's an essential feature that owners realize they need after their first road trip.

Join me in urging Hyundai to take this crucial step towards granting us the freedom to enjoy our E-GMP vehicles to their fullest potential. Sign this petition to show your support for a better and more flexible driving experience.
