GM, the automaker who has often toted making the most models with Apple's Carplay and Android Auto, has recently declared that they will be phasing out carplay for the EVs in their upcoming models. They have stated that this is to give further streamlined control of the car for navigating (Battery reconditioning). But have stated that ICE powered vehicles will have these features!

This is in spite of the fact that Carplay will (rumored) soon have full car integration and have this streamlined functionality built in. Also Apple maps and other navigation apps now route themselves based on EV range, so their point about streamlining control is moot. I expect Android Auto to follow to compete. 

Their point about having ICE vehicles remain having Carplay and Android Auto is interesting. This shows that they are specifically stripping features away from their EVs reducing customer choice and making them have a GM controlled infotainment. By doing this you don't get to pick the music service in your car unless it's one GM chooses for you, you don't get to pick which maps you use, and you don't get to choose by who and how much your data is mined (you have at least slightly better ethics with apple).

GM has failed to provide their customers with a quality digital experience for some time, and I fear that this locking down of their ecosystem away from industry standards is simply them diluting their brand to achieve a quick buck off the hardworking wages of everyday American's while they strip loved features from their vehicles and replace it with something most likely worse.

I believe GM needs to be told "No." You cannot remove these features simply to grift us for our data, this petition seeks them to make this change.

Mary Barra, please, back carplay to all upcoming EVs for the 2024 model year, you will regret it if you don't.
