I recently submitted a Public Records Request to Hinckley Township to better understand what information exists regarding safety concerns at the intersection of State Route 606 (Weymouth Road) and Stony Hill Road.
The first documents have now been released, and they confirm several important points.
Documented crash pattern
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the intersection was studied in 2020 after a request from the Hinckley Police Chief. Crash reports from 2015–2020 showed a consistent pattern of “failure to yield” crashes when drivers enter or cross SR-606.
When ODOT later updated the crash data from 2021 to the present, the same crash pattern continues to occur.
This means the issue residents have been describing is not speculation — it appears in the official crash data.
Prior requests for review
The records also show that Hinckley Township contacted ODOT in 2023 expressing concern that accidents were continuing and asking whether another traffic study could be conducted at the intersection.
ODOT responded that the intersection had already been reviewed and indicated it was too soon to conduct another study.
Township records
The township’s response to my Public Records Request indicates that there are currently no additional studies, reports, or engineering evaluations held by the township regarding improvements to this intersection.
What the data does—and does not—show
Crash reports show the accidents that occur, but they do not capture the near-misses and dangerous situations residents regularly observe.
Many people who live near this intersection have personally witnessed crashes or had close calls themselves. Families living nearby have experienced multiple accidents over the past few years.
Those real-world experiences are part of why this petition exists.
The goal remains simple
This petition is not about politics or development. It is about road safety.
The goal is straightforward:
to encourage a professional safety review of the intersection so transportation engineers can determine whether improvements could reduce the risk of future accidents.
Possible solutions might include improved warning signage, visibility improvements, or other safety measures identified through a formal engineering review.
Community support matters
The fact that so many residents have already signed this petition shows that safety at this intersection is a genuine concern for the community.
If you have witnessed accidents or near-misses at this intersection, please consider signing and sharing the petition so transportation officials can fully evaluate the safety conditions here.
