PETITION FOR THE REMOVAL OF CORRUPT PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND THE ENFORCEMENT OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens of the Republic of the Philippines, express our deep concern over the pervasive corruption, abuse of power, and neglect of public duty within various levels of government. We hereby submit this petition to demand the immediate investigation, prosecution, and removal from office of any public officials found guilty of corruption and grave misconduct. Public office is a public trust, as enshrined in Article XI, Section 1 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, and it is the duty of all public officials to serve with the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and efficiency. However, over the years, many individuals entrusted with public office have instead used their positions for personal gain, engaging in activities such as graft, bribery, nepotism, and misuse of public resources. This systemic corruption not only deprives the Filipino people of essential government services but also weakens the very foundations of democracy, erodes public trust, and perpetuates poverty in our society.

Corruption in government is not a mere inconvenience—it is a matter of life and death for many Filipinos, as it delays or outright prevents access to critical social services, justice, and opportunities. In light of numerous reports, investigative findings, and whistleblower testimonies that have exposed corruption within the ranks of public officials, it is crucial that we hold those responsible accountable. We call for immediate and impartial investigations into the allegations against these officials, regardless of their political affiliation or position of power. Those found guilty must be removed from office and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It is also imperative that preventive suspension be enforced for officials under investigation, ensuring that they cannot interfere with the ongoing investigation or continue to harm the public interest.

This petition is not borne out of partisan political motives but is driven by our collective responsibility as citizens to demand honest, transparent, and accountable governance. The Constitution and various laws, including the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (Republic Act No. 3019) and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials (Republic Act No. 6713), provide clear guidelines for the ethical conduct of public servants, with specific penalties for violations. We urge the appropriate government bodies, including the Ombudsman, the Department of Justice, and the Commission on Audit, to work together to enforce these laws without fear or favor. Public service is a sacred trust, and those who violate this trust must face the full consequences of their actions.

As Filipino citizens, we believe in the power of the law and in the collective strength of the people to effect meaningful change. We stand united in our demand for a government that serves with integrity, transparency, and accountability. It is time for corrupt officials to be removed from their posts, and for justice to prevail. Let us restore the Filipino people's faith in government by ensuring that those who betray the public trust are held responsible. This is not just a call for the removal of individuals from office, but a plea for the restoration of dignity, honor, and public service to those who truly serve the people. We, the undersigned, demand action now, for the sake of the nation, for the future of our children, and for the promise of a better Philippines.

For a just and accountable government. For the Filipino people. For the rule of law.
