Petition for the Defunding and Disbandment of UNRWA for funding terrorism

The issue

We call for immediate action regarding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). It has come to our attention that UNRWA has been facing allegations of misusing donor funds and harboring extremist activities within its institutions.

UNRWA was established in 1949 with the noble mission of providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees. Over the years, it has received significant support from donor countries, including the United States and European nations. However, reports and allegations have raised serious concerns about the agency's ability to ensure that donor funds and institutions do not inadvertently support terrorism.

Allegations and Concerns: Based on credible reports and findings, we are deeply troubled by the following allegations and concerns:

Misuse of Funds: There are allegations that funds intended for humanitarian purposes have been misused, potentially reaching the hands of extremist groups, including Hamas.

Promotion of Extremism: UNRWA staff members have been accused of promoting extremism and inciting hatred, particularly within educational institutions, which should serve as places of learning and peace.

Use of Facilities: There are concerns that UNRWA facilities, such as schools and clinics, may have been used for purposes beyond their intended humanitarian function, potentially including support for extremist activities.

International Response: Countries have already suspended their funding to UNRWA due to ethics reports and concerns. It is essential for the international community to acknowledge and address these issues comprehensively.

Our Demand: We urge governments, international organizations, and relevant authorities to take the following actions:

Immediate Investigation:
Conduct a transparent and independent investigation into the allegations surrounding UNRWA's funds, activities, and its potential connection to extremist groups.

Accountability: Hold UNRWA accountable for any wrongdoing and misuse of funds. Ensure that mechanisms are in place to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Defunding and Disbandment: If these investigations confirm the allegations, we call for the immediate defunding and disbandment of UNRWA to prevent further support for extremism and to protect the vulnerable Palestinian refugee population.

Conclusion: The allegations against UNRWA are grave and require urgent attention. We cannot allow funds intended for humanitarian assistance to be channeled toward extremist activities. It is crucial to protect the future of the younger generations in Gaza from indoctrination and extremism.

By signing this petition, we express our collective concern and demand that appropriate actions be taken to address these allegations and safeguard the values of humanitarianism and peace.
