Petition for the Chicago Wolves to Uphold Strong Ethical Standards in Player Signings
The Issue
We, the undersigned fans and members of the hockey community, respectfully call on the Chicago Wolves organization to adopt and publicly commit to stronger ethical standards in player recruitment, vetting, and conduct.
Sports teams do not exist in a vacuum. They are pillars of their communities, role models for young fans, and representatives of values that extend far beyond the rink. The players a team selects do not only influence performance on the ice, they also shape the culture and reputation of the organization.
In recent years, the world of sports has become increasingly aware of the responsibility organizations carry when allegations of serious misconduct arise in connection with potential signings.
While the legal process determines criminal guilt, teams retain the right, and the responsibility, to evaluate conduct using standards that extend beyond what is merely lawful and toward what is ethical, responsible, and community-driven.
Public trust is built not just through wins and statistics but through leadership, accountability, and sensitivity to those who may be harmed by dismissing serious concerns surrounding personal conduct.
We respectfully request that the Chicago Wolves:
Establish and publish a formal code of conduct for all players and staff.
Implement a character and conduct vetting process as part of recruitment decisions.
Commit to greater transparency when facing sensitive or controversial player-related situations.
Demonstrate clear support for community safety and survivor respect through policy, partnerships, or public statements.
Ensure future signings reflect not only athletic ability but the organization’s values and integrity.
Our Position
This petition is not about presuming legal guilt. It is about recognizing that professional sports organizations set moral tone and social precedent whether they acknowledge it or not.
We believe it is reasonable and necessary for a team to decide that certain actions, even without criminal conviction, may fall short of the standards expected of those who represent the organization and its fans.
Hockey stands for strength, discipline, teamwork, and respect. These values must not exist only during games, they must guide decisions made behind closed doors as well.
By adopting and enforcing stronger ethical standards, the Chicago Wolves can affirm their commitment to the safety, dignity, and trust of the community that supports them.
We ask you to lead with integrity.
Lastly, this team is the feeder team for the Carolina Hurricanes. We've been here before with questions on the integrity of their values. The fact this petition needs to be brought back to life again is utterly disappointing.
