The Issue

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has the power to grant a stay of removal or deferred action for Rogerio, allowing him to remain in Honolulu where his presence is cherished. Rogerio’s contributions to music and culture, his role as a caregiver to his US Citizen wife, Cheryl, of 17 years who is legally blind with other severe medical conditions, and his deep ties to our community make a strong case for allowing him to stay.

Rogerio Carlos Barbosa Araujo has been a cornerstone of Honolulu’s vibrant Brazilian music and dance community for many years. I first had the pleasure of meeting Rogerio and his wife Cheryl in 2014, although Rogerio's contributions began long before then. He was instrumental in organizing numerous Mardi Gras celebrations, providing a collaborative and safe platform for samba dancers, like myself, and other artists, to express and share our passions. Beyond his contributions to the festival scene, Rogerio has played a critical role in supporting my non-profit entertainment organization, BACHATAHISIAN. His efforts have fostered cultural exchange and unity across Honolulu's diverse dance and music communities.

Rogerio is not only a valued community member but also a devoted husband and full-time caregiver. His compassionate and supportive nature has earned him a special place in the hearts of many, including his peers in the dance and music scene. Despite his deep roots and contributions to our community, Rogerio now faces the threat of deportation, a situation that deeply concerns us all.

In light of Rogerio's significant contributions and integral presence in Honolulu, I ask everyone to petition ICE for a stay of removal to allow Rogerio to remain with his wife Cheryl and within our community. Every signature matters and adds strength to our plea for compassion and understanding from ICE.

Please sign this petition to support Rogerio Carlos Barbosa Araujo and help keep him as part of our community. Your signature can make a difference.
