Petition Against Hate Speech, Abusive Content & Misinformation Targeting Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj
To,
The Competent Authorities,
Government of India
Subject: Request for appropriate action regarding the circulation of hate speech, abusive content and misinformation concerning Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj online
We, the undersigned citizens and devotees, respectfully bring to the attention of the competent authorities the increasing circulation of hate-filled, abusive, derogatory and misleading content concerning Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj across social-media platforms and other online forums.
This petition is not an attempt to prevent criticism or disagreement.
Everyone has the right to express a lawful opinion.
Our concern is specifically about the spread of misinformation, unverified allegations, distorted narratives and abusive language presented or circulated online as though they were established facts.
TRUTH SHOULD BE BASED ON FACTS
Serious statements concerning any individual should be based on proper research, reliable evidence and complete context.
However, online discussions can sometimes result in claims being repeatedly shared without the original information being examined or independently verified.
Repeating a claim does not make it a fact.
A social-media post is not automatically evidence.
A short video clip may not contain the complete context.
And an opinion expressed by a critic should not automatically be presented as an established fact.
We therefore respectfully request that information concerning Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj be approached with the same basic principle that should apply to everyone:
VERIFY BEFORE YOU AMPLIFY.
CRITICISM AND HATE SPEECH ARE NOT THE SAME
We fully respect the right of people to disagree with Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj or question his teachings, statements or activities.
Healthy disagreement and genuine criticism are part of an open society.
However, criticism should not become a campaign of personal abuse, humiliation, hateful language or deliberate dissemination of false or misleading information.
There is a fundamental difference between saying:
“I disagree with this statement.”
and spreading an unverified allegation as though it were proven fact.
Our request is therefore not:
“Do not criticize.”
Our request is:
“Criticize responsibly. Verify facts. Do not spread misinformation.”
RESEARCH BEFORE JUDGMENT
We are concerned that some people discussing Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj online may be relying heavily on material produced by critics or on previously circulated claims without independently examining the underlying facts and complete context.
Before forming a strong conclusion about any person, especially a widely followed spiritual figure, it is important to examine:
the original source;
the complete context;
available evidence;
the circumstances surrounding the claim;
and, wherever possible, information from all relevant sides.
Judgment should follow research—not replace it.
If an allegation is true, credible evidence should establish it.
If an allegation is false, misleading or taken out of context, credible evidence should establish that as well.
The answer should come from facts, not from the volume at which something is repeated online.
RESPECT FOR A WIDELY FOLLOWED SPIRITUAL FIGURE
Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj has become a widely followed spiritual figure whose words and teachings have influenced and inspired a large number of people.
For many devotees, his spiritual guidance has had a meaningful impact on their lives.
People are free to agree or disagree with him.
But disagreement should not require hatred, ridicule or the circulation of unverified information.
A person's public prominence should not make them immune from legitimate criticism.
At the same time, their prominence should not make them an easy target for online hate campaigns or misinformation.
OUR REQUEST
We respectfully request the competent authorities to:
1. Take cognizance of the circulation of hate speech, abusive content and misinformation concerning Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj online.
2. Examine complaints concerning demonstrably false or misleading information being presented as factual information.
3. Encourage responsible and evidence-based discussion of allegations and claims circulated on social-media platforms.
4. Where content is found to violate applicable law or relevant platform rules, take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
5. Encourage social-media users and content creators to verify information before presenting or sharing allegations as facts.
6. Promote a standard of public discussion in which legitimate criticism remains possible while misinformation and abusive discourse are not normalized.
THIS PETITION IS ABOUT TRUTH
By signing this petition, we are not asking anyone to blindly support Pujya Premanand Ji Maharaj.
We are asking for something that should apply equally to everyone:
Facts before accusations.
Research before judgment.
Evidence before claims.
Truth before virality.
Respect before abuse.
If criticism is based on facts, let those facts be examined.
If allegations are genuine, let evidence establish them.
And if claims being circulated are incorrect, misleading or taken out of context, let that also be acknowledged publicly.
I support this petition and request the competent authorities to examine this matter fairly, verify the facts, and take appropriate action wherever violations of law are established.
