Introducing a NEW Petition for a BAN on BESS & Data Centers in Reno County

When this petition began, many residents sought a moratorium to allow time for study, public discussion, and careful consideration of battery energy storage systems and data centers in Reno County. Since then, residents have taken time to educate themselves and realize how hazardous BESS and data centers are and how incompatible they are with Reno County. 

Additionally, the conversation has evolved. County commissioners have indicated that the threshold question before the county is whether these uses should be permitted at all. If the county chooses not to prohibit them on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at their 9am meeting, the discussion would then move to how they might be regulated—whether through commission review and new regulations, or through the existing process, including consideration of a Conditional Use Permit.

Because the issue has now advanced beyond the question of a temporary pause, some residents have concluded that a permanent ban is the appropriate course of action.
