Petition for Full Reconstruction of O’Toole Road in Cumberland

The Issue

Every day as I drive through our neighborhood, I am confronted with the same alarming scene: a road riddled with potholes and loose rocks, creating unsafe conditions for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Despite frequent patchwork repairs, the road continues to collapse and deteriorate. Our neighborhood road was never fully completed, and its shortcomings are evident in the absence of bike lanes and dangerously narrow sides.

A major ongoing issue is the same pothole located in the middle of the road that has been collapsing for many years. Each time it is “fixed,” it is simply repatched, but this solution does not last. Within a few months, the pothole returns and is often worse than before, continuing the same ineffective cycle.

In addition, only one portion of the road has been properly completed. The section on the other side of Innes Road has been redone, while the other side of the road leading all the way to the French Hill Road intersection has been left in poor condition. This creates inconsistent and unsafe road conditions for residents who rely on it daily.

The cycle of damage and repeated temporary repairs is more than an inconvenience. It is a serious safety concern that affects the entire community. The lack of proper infrastructure makes daily travel difficult and increases the risk of accidents.

To resolve this issue, we are urging local authorities to fully reconstruct our road. This includes installing a durable surface, adding proper bike lanes, clearly marking a center line to safely separate two-way traffic, and widening and paving the sides to remove loose rocks. A complete reconstruction is necessary to ensure long-term safety and reliability rather than continuing short-term fixes.

We need your support to make this change happen. By signing this petition, you are helping advocate for a safer and more reliable road for everyone in the community.
