OUR message: Dances are a defining part of the High School experience, offering students an opportunity to socialize, express themselves, and create lasting memories far past graduation. Yet, the current policy at Davis and Layton High Schools restricts these events to enrolled students only. This rule, while designed with good intentions, limits the social dynamics and friendships that have enriched our school communities for decades. By allowing students from other schools to attend our dances, we can create a more inclusive atmosphere and strengthen relationships ACROSS the Davis school District.
Davis and Layton High Schools both have students who are extremely disappointed about this new policy. Many students have friends and relatives attending other nearby schools who they would really wish to invite. Sharing these experiences are so important, and this new rule is making us seem "snotty" and "uninclusive". Inviting students from outside schools is not just an opportunity for fun, but also a chance to celebrate our shared community. The Students don't believe that we're superior to any other school, and we want our actions to reflect this. Other schools welcome us to their events with open arms. It's time we return the favor and create a sense of unity and mutual respect. By lifting this ban and embracing an inclusive policy, we can demonstrate that at Davis and Layton High Schools, everyone is welcome.
From a practical standpoint, incorporating students from various schools into our dances could enhance event attendance and success! Raising more money for the schools and making the students happy. A well-attended dance is more vibrant and financially sustainable, providing resources that can fund future school projects, events, and clubs.
We understand the importance of safety and logistics, which is why a simple guest pass system will work. And does work for MOST schools in this amazing district. This system requires students who wish to bring outside guests to register them prior to the event, allowing the administration to maintain oversight and security effectively. Schools across the country successfully employ similar systems to open their dances to everyone while ensuring a safe environment. We urge the administrations of Davis and Layton High Schools to rethink their policies and open their doors to students from other schools for dances.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for an inclusive and diverse school environment that values community over simplicity. A decision that benefits Davis and Layton students For years to come. Please add your name to the petition! Share with your friends and family!
THIS IS A PEACEFUL PETITION, AND ANYTHING BEYOND ADVOCATING FOR AND SIGNING THE PETITION WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED. WE WANT CHANGE THROUGH DIALOGUE NOT THROUGH DISRUPTION.
