PETITION FOR CLEMENCY AND A SECOND CHANCE FOR DERRICK HILL
The Issue
20 Years Incarcerated. A Journey of Accountability, Growth, and Redemption.
For approximately 20 years, Derrick Hill has been incarcerated, serving a sentence of Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP) in California.
Today, we are asking the public to stand with Derrick and his family in calling for a meaningful opportunity for a second chance.
Derrick does not deny the seriousness of the crime that led to his incarceration. He acknowledges the harm caused, accepts responsibility for his actions, and understands that the pain experienced by the victim’s loved ones cannot be erased.
We also believe that people have the capacity to grow, change, and become better individuals.
During his incarceration, Derrick has worked to improve himself through programs including:
•Anger Management
•Gang Members Anonymous
•Denial Management
•Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
•Educational and rehabilitative courses through EDOVO
•Peer support and personal development programs •Many More
Derrick Hill is the Co-Founder of Dee Hill Foundation Inc., an organization dedicated to advocating for and supporting families who have incarcerated loved ones.
In 2022, Dee Hill Foundation Inc. helped support and co-sponsor California Senate Bill 1139 (SB 1139), authored by Senator Sydney Kamlager.
This important legislation addressed medical emergencies and family visitation rights for incarcerated individuals. It established protections involving emergency communication, notification of family members, access to medical information, and visitation during serious medical situations.
On September 29, 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 1139 into law.
Derrick’s commitment to self-improvement reflects his efforts to learn from his past, take accountability, and work toward a more positive future.
Derrick has a loving wife, kids and family. He has a strong support system prepared to stand beside him and help him navigate the responsibilities of reentry if he is granted the opportunity.
Why We Are Asking for Your Signature
We are respectfully calling on Governor Gavin Newsom to review Derrick Hill’s case and consider commuting his Life Without the Possibility of Parole sentence.
We are not asking for his past to be forgotten. We are asking for his accountability, rehabilitation, and personal transformation to be recognized.
A commutation could provide Derrick with a meaningful opportunity to be considered for parole, rather than remaining permanently excluded from that possibility.
We believe that accountability and second chances can go hand in hand.
Help Us Bring Hope to Derrick Hill and His Family
Your signature is more than a name. It is a voice supporting rehabilitation, redemption, and the belief that people can change.

Our message is simple:
People Change.
Rehabilitation Matters.
Families Matter.
Second Chances Matter.
Give Derrick Hill the opportunity to have his transformation considered.
With hope and gratitude,
