Lakeside at Tessera Petition Supporters,
Thank you for your continued dedication to improving our community! Since our petition began and the Tessera Townhall Meeting at the Pavilion on Saturday, May 24, 2025—where Councilman Shane Saum and Mayor Kevin Sullivan heard our concerns—we’ve made significant strides in addressing wildfire risks, safety, and maintenance issues. Here’s a detailed update on our progress and an invitation to join us at the next City Council meeting to keep the momentum going.
Wildfire Risks: Protecting Our Homes
Councilman Shane Saum, who is also a mayoral candidate for November 2025, has been working closely with Travis County Emergency Services to tackle wildfire risks in Tessera. Photos submitted to the city reveal piles of dead branches and debris in greenbelt areas, which are clear code violations that increase our vulnerability. On May 28, the Emergency Services Department (ESD) was deployed to assess the situation, and a meeting with Tessera representatives is being scheduled for next week to develop a mitigation plan. The 2021 International Fire Code (IFC 304.1.2) mandates that property owners remove weeds, grass, and other fire-fueling growth. We’re advocating for strict enforcement to ensure our families’ safety.
Pool Operations: Addressing Safety Concerns
We’ve raised concerns about pool usage after public hours and the need for lifeguards during open hours. The city is reviewing its responsibilities to ensure proper oversight and safety measures are implemented. We’ll provide further updates as this process moves forward.
Safety, Maintenance, and Landscaping: Tackling Code Violations
Our petition has prompted investigations into potential code violations, including broken playscapes, neglected fencing, and overgrown Right of Way areas. Efforts are underway to clarify whether the City or the HOA is responsible for mowing and landscaping along city roads, as well as to determine if construction debris, such as piles of rocks, violates city codes. These actions aim to restore safety and beauty to our neighborhood.
State-Level Advocacy: Support from Rep. Ellen Troxclair
State Representative Ellen Troxclair (HD 19) has been a steadfast ally. On May 20, her office contacted the Texas Attorney General to investigate resident complaints from a Consumer Protection standpoint. While the AG’s office cannot offer personal legal counsel, they’re providing affected residents with detailed personal stories through the complaint process to help evaluate the issues. Rep. Troxclair encourages everyone to stay engaged and share updates with neighbors—your involvement is driving change!
Join Us at the Next City Council Meeting!
We have an important opportunity to bring our concerns directly to the City Council at their next meeting:
