Like many residents of Ontario, I have faced significant challenges in accessing timely healthcare services in my community. Securing an appointment with a healthcare provider often involves months-long wait times, or alternatively, the burden of paying out-of-pocket for private specialist care, which is financially inaccessible for many. The people of our province deserve equitable and timely access to healthcare that meets their needs.

An innovative solution exists: a free online booking system for finding accessible healthcare providers in your area for non-urgent medical appointments. 

This system, similar to Medinav.ca (which is currently only available in Manitoba), would allow Ontario residents to schedule same-day or next-day appointments at participating clinics across the province. By introducing such a system, we can streamline access to primary care, offering timely appointments and helping those who struggle to find nearby healthcare providers.

Currently, too many Ontarians resort to emergency room visits or endure prolonged waits for appointments with family doctors or specialists. This not only overwhelms our healthcare facilities but also fails to provide immediate relief to those in need of non-urgent care. A provincial online booking system would reduce the strain on emergency services and ensure that residents receive the care they need at the right time.

The system would be publicly supported and available to all residents of Ontario, reducing inequities in healthcare and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status or location, can access the care they need. It would also alleviate the burden on our already taxed front-line healthcare workers by efficiently distributing patient loads and clearly outlining available services.

By adopting an online booking system, Ontario can lead by example, demonstrating that we value efficient and accessible healthcare for all. Let's ask the leaders of Ontario to take action by investing in the health infrastructure needed to effectively serve our communities.
