Petition for a referendum to Deannex from the City of South Fulton, Georgia
The Issue
Many of us in Unincorporated South Fulton did not want to be a part of a new city in 2016. We voted NO. We were content with Commissioner Emma Darnell representing us.
Six communities felt so strongly against it they attempted to annex into the City of Atlanta to avoid becoming a part of the new city. They were sued and were forced into the new city.
We were told we would be better off. We’ve regressed!
We were told there would be no need for our taxes to be raised if we became a city, yet they were raised as soon as the law allowed.
NOW our property tax rate is one of the highest in Fulton County!
24% higher than the City of Atlanta!
Had we remained Unincorporated our tax rate would be 9.55 mills !!!!
We are constantly in the news and never being shown in a good light. From City Council and the Mayor suing each other to citizens being bullied at Council meetings to allegations of police corruption to understaffed departments with employees constantly leaving.

We are going into our 7th year with a much larger budget, much higher taxes and no measurable improvement. Some Recreation Centers and programs have been closed for extended periods of time or discontinued altogether. Closed but not due to COVID. Wolf Creek Amphitheater has yet to have concerts since we became a city.
We’ve regressed!
Therefore, we are petitioning the Georgia State Legislature to pass a referendum allowing the property owners to vote whether to de-annex from the City of South Fulton. Those of us wishing to deannex are in the north west corner of the city. This is NOT a request to disband the entire city!
