The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Cincinnati, Ohio, demand the resignation or removal of Police Chief Teresa A. Theetge due to ongoing concerns about her leadership in addressing the city’s crime crisis. While we acknowledge the complexities of policing and the challenges faced by the Cincinnati Police Department, we believe Chief Theetge has not demonstrated the effective leadership needed to ensure public safety.

Under Chief Theetge’s tenure, which began in February 2022, Cincinnati has faced persistent crime challenges, including high-profile incidents like the July 2025 downtown brawl that endangered residents and damaged the city’s reputation. Crime statistics and public reports indicate ongoing issues with violent crime, with insufficient progress in reducing rates or implementing proactive strategies. Furthermore, allegations of mismanagement, including a 2025 lawsuit claiming discriminatory practices within the department, raise serious questions about her ability to lead effectively and equitably.

As a community, we deserve a Police Chief who can implement innovative, data-driven strategies to reduce crime, rebuild public trust, and address systemic issues within the department. We call on the City Manager, Mayor Aftab Pureval, and Cincinnati City Council to take immediate action to address these concerns, either by securing Chief Theetge’s resignation or initiating her removal, and to appoint a leader with a proven record of success in crime reduction and community engagement.

By signing this petition, we urge city leadership to prioritize public safety and accountability. Cincinnati deserves better. Let our voices be heard.
