REMEMBERING MOTHER LEWIS AT ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH
There will be a Mass to commemorate the life of Mother Emma Lewis at St. Michael’s Church on Sunday, Feb 26 at 12:00 noon. Five years after Fr. Quaremba established St. Michael’s Church and School for Italian Immigrants there was a corresponding effort by Mother Emma Lewis beginning in 1917 to establish a Catholic African–American community in Atlantic City. She was eventually successful in establishing the original St. Monica’s Mission on Delaware Ave in Atlantic City. Since June 2015 St. Michael’s Church, St Nicholas of Tolentine Church, and Star of the Sea Church have all been united under the citywide Parish of St. Monica…the name is a tribute to Mother Lewis’ efforts. A link to a Catholic Herald story about Mother Lewis is at: http://catholicstarherald.org/the-founder-of-st-monica-church/
St. Michael’s Church is honored to host the celebration of this Parish Mass in memory of Mother Emma Lewis on Sunday. She will be remembered as an inspiring figure in the Camden Diocese in bringing the Catholic faith and hope to African-Americans in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Following Mass The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St John are sponsoring a Dinner in Quaremba Hall that is open to all. The cost for the dinner is $40.00.

LETTER FROM PASTOR JON THOMAS TO ALL
Mass for the Business Community
"Prosper the work of our hands!" -Psalm 90:17
On February 22, the Parish of St. Monica is hosting a special Mass to pray for the success of the Atlantic City area business community. The Mass will be held at 5:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church.
"Many Atlantic City businesses are persevering in a challenging environment. At this Mass we will ask God to bless the work of their hands so that the whole community will be raised up," said Fr. Jon Thomas, pastor of the Parish of St. Monica.
"As Catholic business people we need both hard work and God's grace to be successful," says Atlantic City Councilman Jesse O. Kurtz. "The Mass for business leaders will remind us to both do well and do good in our endeavors of commerce."
"Many of those attending this Mass represent the cornerstone of our business community," says Cathy Burke, owner of The Irish Pub. "It is only fitting that we come together to overcome the challenges we face. This Mass represents our faith and hope for our community. Time after time history has shown how Atlantic City earned its title as the 'Queen of Resorts.'"
Business leaders may contact the parish office for a personal invitation. The Mass is open to the public.
