This Westside News article presents both sides of the story. We all want to to protect our natural assets but I feel banning dogs is an unintended consequence of the legislation. I would argue that horses (which are not banned) present the same environmental risk as dogs on leash. Also it's been pointed out that there are political pressures not to be seen to decrease the amount of designated National Park but regazzetting the affected fire trails only to the classification of 'regional park' (similar to the old system) would not reduce the level of protection of the national park they traverse and would allow on leash dog walking on these fire trails only.
