The Issue

To: Board of Trustees, Morgan Hill Unified School District

We, the undersigned parents of PVEA & MHUSD, express our strong objection to the current proposed budget cuts within our school district. While we understand the need for fiscal responsibility, we believe that the current approach unfairly impacts our students and hardworking teachers. We urge the board to explore alternative cost-saving measures that do not disproportionately affect the educational experience of our children.

Reasons for Our Objection:

  • Student Impact: The proposed cuts directly affect our children’s education. Reductions in teaching positions, support staff, and essential programs jeopardize the quality of learning and student well-being.
  • Teacher Hardships: Our dedicated teachers and staff face uncertainty about their jobs and livelihoods. Their commitment to our students should not be overshadowed by financial constraints.
  • High Compensation: We believe that the district should consider other avenues for cost savings, such as reducing high compensation for certain district staff. Transparency and fairness are essential in budget decisions.

Our Request:

We respectfully request the following actions:

  • Transparent Discussions: Engage in open dialogue with parents, teachers, and staff regarding the budget cuts. Let us collectively explore solutions that prioritize student success while maintaining fiscal responsibility. And better understand the budget spent thus far such as 11M spent on contracted projects.
  • Alternative Measures: Consider alternatives to the proposed cuts, such as reducing compensation for high-earning district staff or adjusting other non-essential expenses.
  • Equitable Distribution: Ensure that budget adjustments are distributed fairly across all areas, rather than disproportionately affecting students and educators.

Please see more on mentioned budget cuts below:

  1. Morgan Hill schools face growing budget deficit
  2. Report shows MHUSD faces $13 million budget deficit; job cuts expected

Signatories:

We, the concerned parents of PVEA and other schools in MHUSD, urge the board to reconsider the current budget proposals. We believe that by working together, we can find a balanced approach that preserves educational quality while addressing financial challenges.
