📢 Community Update: Ballysillan 5G Mast – Environmental & Resident Impact

Dear friends and supporters,

Thank you so much for standing with us in objecting to the 5G mast recently installed at 423 Ballysillan Road. Your signatures and voices have made it clear: this structure does not belong in a residential neighbourhood, especially not without proper notification, consultation, or environmental consideration.

📍 What’s Happening Now:
We have now submitted a formal legal objection to O2 (VMED O2 UK Ltd) under Paragraph 75(2) of the Electronic Communications Code.

Alongside this, we've included:

A copy of Belfast City Council’s Stage 2 complaint response, which confirms serious flaws in the planning process.

Photographic evidence of environmental damage, including a mature tree now visibly dying since the mast was erected. From the top down look around its all the side of the mast

A growing number of concerns from neighbours about disoriented birds, which have started flying into windows – a worrying new development since the mast was powered on.

🛑 Key Issues:
Flawed neighbour notification: The Council admits only 3 nearby addresses were notified. Many directly affected homes were left out.
Environmental impact: A healthy tree adjacent to the mast is dying. We believe this is more than coincidence.
Wildlife disruption: Birds appear confused and are flying into homes – this started after the mast went live.
Proximity to homes and schools: Despite what the applicant claimed, this mast is dangerously close to both.

📣 What We're Asking:
Immediate removal of the mast.
An investigation into environmental harm.
A halt to any future telecommunications installations in the area until a full and transparent review has taken place.
We are escalating this to the Ombudsman and OFCOM next. We’ll continue to fight for accountability and the wellbeing of our community.

📝 If you haven’t yet contacted your local councillors or shared this issue with the press – now is the time. Every voice matters.

Thank you again for your ongoing support. We’ll keep you posted on next steps. Please share our posts

With determination,Concerned Residents of Ballysillan
