Today was the eleventh anniversary of Dale's death. It must have been a difficult day for his family and friends.

Thank you for signing the petition.

I am going to ask you to do something unusual, to send a letter to the leader of Ealing Council rather than an email. The reason is that formula emails, where everyone just adds their name to a prewritten text, end up clogging up inboxes and are ignored eventually or treated as spam. It is much harder to ignore something physical and individual, where the recipient has to open and look at each item.

Please write to Peter Mason, the leader of Ealing Council, at the address below.

You could copy the image used on the petition page and include it with your letter.

Those writing in support of a campaign are usually advised to keep to the point and to make it clearly. I'm suggesting that you put as much emotion and feeling into your message as you feel is necessary but please be polite. Remember that you are doing this to commemorate a very special person who was known for his kindness and respectful behaviour. There was a reason why you signed the petition, tell Peter Mason why it is important to keep what is being referred to as Horsenden Recreation Ground as it is. Tell him you want it to be known as Dale's Field in memory of Lance Sergeant Dale McCallum and kept as a "Veteran Space".

- If you are a local resident you may be concerned that making it into a park will mean it will attract antisocial behaviour, you may prefer that it is kept as a quiet natural space or want to prevent changes that may be the first step to development.

- If you have an interest in veteran affairs you may want mental health and other support for veterans in the borough. This initiative could be the start of "Veteran Spaces" elsewhere. You may see this as an appropriate and positive way to commemorate Dale and express gratitude for his service.

- If you knew Dale explain why he deserves this memorial. Tell Peter Mason what you remember about him.

- If you are from a similar background to Dale you may believe that it is important to recognise his contribution as someone who came to the UK from a Commonwealth country and died in the service of this one.

Whatever your reasons, please write to :
Peter Mason, Leader of Ealing Council

Please include your name and address/email so that he can reply to you. Do it as soon as possible. Ask others to do this too.

Alternatively you can send him an email: peter.mason@ealing.gov.uk

If you get a reply tell me about it.

And keep asking people to sign the petition.

Thank you.
