Why can't East Mayo have a greenway on the closed railway but Sligo can?
It is an interesting question, just look at the map we want to see as greenway. The red line is the proposed East Mayo Greenway. It is the route that the Department of Transport and Irish Rail have told Mayo county council that a greenway is no problem, plus a thousand other people said the same in submissions on the Mayo county plan in 2021.
Look at the purple line, A greenway all the way from Enniskillen to Charlestown on the Sligo Mayo border using the closed railway line. Sligo county council supports this idea and so far has received €1.1 million from the Department to advance the idea. Hopefully Sligo will soon get the full funding to push ahead with the greenway that will stop at Charlestown. Wow.
Mayo county council have refused to accept the money on offer from the Department of Transport which supports the East Mayo Greenway.
Isn't it time to ask the local councillors why is Mayo County Council refusing funding that is clearly available. You can when they come knocking on your door looking for your vote.
