Western Rail Trail

A massive thank you. We have hit 1,000 on-line petition signatures, along with 166 people who have signed the hard copy petition that was available in the town last year. The objective of the petition was really to assess what public opinion in the area was. 1000 signatures on this petition and 166 in hard copy about an issue in a town the size of Kiltimagh is a huge expression of public opinion. We have raised the awareness level and asked the question would you like to see this facility in our local community. The answer is clearly yes. Now we have to work on a solution with the agencies involved. Mayo County Council, Kiltimagh IRD and Irish Rail, the owners of the closed railway. There is clearly a demand for a greenway and with the commitment to Greenways in the new National Development Plan we know there is funding available for such projects. Gathering petition signatures is great it shows what public opinion is, but now is the time for action and negotiation. The Kiltimagh Greenway Group has registered with Mayo County Council as an official community group, our dialogue and reach out to the council has begun. We need people to become involved. Future notifications will come from the Kiltimagh Greenway Group Facebook group, and if you have signed this petition we are asking you to join this group and register yourself on this Facebook group. Many many thanks for showing your support. The time has come to move this project forward into a reality. Regards and thanks. Kiltimagh Greenway Group.
