The Issue

Hosted skate event within London bringing all skaters together

For many of us passionate about roller skating, finding a safe and welcoming spot is a constant struggle. Living in London, UK, I've seen firsthand the need for dedicated spaces where young people can roller skate freely and safely. Particularly in Stratford, a community hub bustling with diverse activity, there's a gap – a missing piece that could foster inclusiveness, enjoyment, and community spirit for roller skaters.

Roller skating is not just a hobby, it's a thriving culture and community for many. It offers a unique means for physical exercise, stress relief, and social interaction. Yet, the scarcity of dedicated skating areas often forces young enthusiasts to skate in areas that are either unsafe or where they're unwanted, leading to potential conflicts and a feeling of exclusion. Creating official roller skating spots can mitigate these issues, offering everyone a place to connect, perform tricks, and simply enjoy the sport they love as well as give them the responsibilities to look after them.

This is especially critical during inclement weather, as skaters need a sheltered environment with sufficient light that ensures their passion can continue year-round and all times of the day. Developing such spaces would not only promote physical activity but also strengthen community bonds by offering a networking haven for people with shared interests.

I urge the local authorities in Stratford to consider the establishment of outside roller skating spots and designated safe areas. These spaces should be accessible, safe, and nurtured as places where young people can socialize, make new friends, and skate without the fear of being reprimanded. Let's take a step towards inclusivity and community by providing a haven for roller skating with Stratford being a first attempt to promote this to happen all around London.

Please sign this petition to show support for a greener, healthier, and more inclusive Stratford, where every young roller skater can meet the friends they haven't met yet, and practice the sport they love safely and joyously. Your signature can make a difference.
