Permit Homeschooled Students to Compete in Varsity Sports and Clubs

The Issue

Hello, my name is Emory and I am a passionate swimmer, homeschooling in our local community. Despite actively contributing tax dollars towards the public school system, I find myself deprived of an opportunity that is readily granted to my public school peers - the chance to compete in athletics and engage in clubs.

Homeschooling has opened up a realm of possibilities for my educational journey and I believe it should not limit my access to public school extracurricular activities. I am one of the estimated 2.5 million students who are homeschooled in the United States (National Home Education Research Institute, 2019). This education choice should not restrain us from participating in the same sporting events and clubs that public school students enjoy. We, who are associated with the same community and contribute to the tax base, deserve similar opportunities.

Allowing homeschool students access to varsity sports and clubs would not only enhance our academic and social experiences but also promote equity and fairness. It is time we abolish this form of implicit segregation and encourage all students, regardless of their educational system, to participate in varsity sports and clubs.

Please sign this petition and let's work together to create an inclusive and equitable society for all. Your signature could catalyze the change that permits homeschoolers like myself, to fully enjoy and contribute to the community we are a part of.
