Permanently Address Unauthorized RV Encampments in Crown Hill Neighborhood of Seattle

The Issue

Dear Dan Strauss, Debora Juarez, Teresa Mosqueda, Sara Nelson, and other Elected Officials of the Seattle City Council,

We, the undersigned residents of Crown Hill neighborhood, are writing this petition to bring to your attention a pressing issue that has been affecting our community for over a year now — the presence of unauthorized RV encampments. We implore you to take immediate action to address this matter and implement a permanent solution that will restore the safety, well-being, and quality of life in our neighborhood.

Firstly, the unauthorized RV encampments have caused significant disruptions and hazards for the residents. Sidewalks have become impassable due to the presence of these vehicles, forcing pedestrians, including students and the elderly, to walk on the streets, putting their safety at risk. Other safety hazards encompass a range of concerns, such as the existence of numerous propane tanks, generators running continuously on sidewalks, and the storage of gasoline containers intended for these generators. Unfortunately, an incident of a destructive fire in a private property yard has already occurred as a result of these activities. This ongoing situation is highly unacceptable and jeopardizes the safety of the innocent residents. Furthermore, it has come to our attention that drug use by the RV tenants frequently occurs on the sidewalks, which not only endangers the individuals involved but also creates an unsafe environment for the entire community. Additionally, there have been numerous reports of thefts within the neighborhood, with stolen items often visible near the RV encampments, causing distress and concern among the residents.

This ongoing issue demands a permanent solution that will address the underlying causes and ensure the safety and well-being of our neighborhood. The presence of unauthorized RV encampments has caused immense distress to the residents, impacting our mental and physical health, and causing us to worry about the safety and security of our children. Our quality of life has been significantly affected, and it is our collective responsibility to find a lasting resolution.

To this end, we propose removal of the RVs and installation of permanent durable metal poles filled with concrete and connected with chains in areas where RVs can park. We have already prepared an architectural design and a map indicating the proposed locations. By establishing clear boundaries and parking regulations, we can mitigate the adverse effects of unauthorized RV encampments. Such a solution would not only alleviate the safety concerns but also uphold the rights of the residents who pay substantial property taxes to ensure the well-being of our neighborhood. We strongly believe that implementing this solution will help restore peace and tranquility in Crown Hill Neighborhood.

In conclusion, we, the undersigned residents of Crown Hill Neighborhood, respectfully request your immediate attention and action to address the issue of unauthorized RV encampments. Our community has suffered for far too long, and we urge you to consider our proposed solution of installing permanent metal poles in designated areas where RVs can park. By taking action, you will demonstrate your commitment to safeguarding the well-being and quality of life of the residents who have entrusted you with their safety.

We appreciate your attention to this matter and eagerly await your prompt response. Thank you for your understanding and for working towards a resolution that benefits the entire community.
