People With Chronic Illnesses Should Not Have To Get Regular Sick Too

The Issue

When chronically ill people try to get healthy people to understand our lives, we often say 'imagine you had the flu and didn't get better'. Something we say less often is 'imagine you had the flu and then got food poisoning'.

Chronically ill people are already dealing with some combination of exhaustion, muscle aches, gastro issues, brain fog, pain, etc. We should be exempt from regular illnesses like sinus infections, gastroenteritis, colds, and other common maladies.

Not only do we have more than enough to be getting on with, thank you, but we also tend to get hit harder and take longer to recover from such infections. This is clearly an undue burden.

I am calling on whoever is in charge of such an asymmetric and unfair system to implement an immediate ban on this double dipping, give assurances that future viruses and bacterial infections have been trained to operate with sensitivity and understanding, and to issue compensation to those of us currently managing the workload.

It's long past time for justice. Fix it now!
